Couldn't watch live for the last episode, but I REALLY need to refute one of the Supachats that got read because I fucking hate the spread of misinformation...

One of the Supachats made the claim that "physical media isn't worth buying because it's just an unlock code and there's no game data on the disc" - which is an outright lie. While SOME PS5 games are like that, it isn't even close to a majority; same with the Switch/2 outside of Game Key Cards. There's a website cataloging the state of modern games released physically called "doesitplay.org" if you want to explore the data for yourself. For example, aside from some minor bugs, the recent release Pragmata is playable from start to finish with what's on the disc: https://www.doesitplay.org/game/Pragmata/ps5/Base%20PS5?region=ESRB&version=Standard - and THIS is the norm if you poke around the site. Hell, the homepage even lays it out in a simple graph which you can filter by console if you want. https://www.doesitplay.org/

Most games do have a day 1 patch, but for the most part it's just fixing some non-breaking bugs and maybe enabling multiplayer. For example, the recent StarFox remake has a decent size patch, but the vast majority of that is for the online multiplayer mode which is disabled if you boot straight from the card without patching. The single-player campaign and mission modes are 100% complete straight from the card, just with a few very minor bugs.

@SideScrollers @BlabberingC @PandaSub2000 Please push back against bullshit misinformation when it comes up on the show - that pervasive bullshit claim that no physical games are complete on disc/card so they're not worth buying is probably a non-trivial part of the sales decline we've been seeing over the last decade, despite the data not even remotely supporting it.

Side Scrollers may have a new theme song

This was put together by DB Wyld using AI but I'm not gonna lie: it's awesome.

Take a listen and let us know what you think about using it at the start of the show?

Side Scrollers may have a new theme song

So I like this one YouTuber, Pariah695, enough to be on his Patreon. He sounds like a buddy I had in high school that liked the same games I did back then and likes the same games he's making videos and streams on nowadays, though I'm sure it isn't the same fellow. Not enough of a Long Island accent (if I get inebriated enough, I'll slip back into it...)

Anyway, I watched his take of Star Fox, Switch 2 Edition:

It looks decent: playfield graphics are fine even if I don't care for the realistic animal look and the music seems OK. Looks like the levels are authentic enough and there are medals like @Videogamer25 mentioned in his take. I actually also like the shading and variety of color in the reimagined stages whereas the 64 version looked flat. But I noticed something annoying:

The sound effects just sound really bad to my ear, compared to the originals. Not talking about the voice acting but the sound of lasers blasting, the brake and throttle in ...

He ain't wrong... I had to wear Crocs after I got a nasty ligament injury in my angle that left my foot swollen, and I begrudgingly had to admit that my contempt for them was misguided.

Fast and Furious 25th Anniversary
The Power of Family

For those of you who don't know, Phoenix has one pop culture obsession above all others: The Fast and the Furious. As we count down to the 25th anniversary of the original film, we've decided to turn this into something bigger than just a movie rewatch. On Monday, June 22nd, we'll be celebrating the movie that started it all, and we'd love for the Side Scrollers Plus community to be a part of it.

If you'd like to help celebrate, we want to see what you've got. Create artwork, AI-generated images, AI videos, memes, posters, songs, poems, tributes, fake movie trailers, or anything else inspired by The Fast and the Furious, the idea of family, or Phoenix's legendary love for the franchise. We'll be showcasing community submissions leading up to and during the event. Whether your contribution is serious, heartfelt, creative, or completely ridiculous, we want to see it. Let's make this a community-wide celebration of one of the most influential action movies of the last 25 years - and one man's unwavering dedication to living his life a quarter mile at a time.

Let's Shape The Future NOW
Help us shape the future of Side Scrollers original programming

We live in a time period where nearly all of our entertainment is captured by agenda driven institutions and ideology. This means the content we’re forced to consume is tainted with messaging we didn’t ask for, don’t believe in, and don’t want to pay for. This leaves the “Normal Man” with little to no options- until now. Side Scrollers is on a mission to create, develop, and provide audiences the entertainment they crave and miss. We want to hear from YOU what that content looks like. You’re the ones who have been generous enough to help fund it- so it should be YOU that has a say in what we deliver.

Maybe it’s scripted entertainment, live game shows, in depth interviews, documentaries, content with specific creators, more gameplay dedicated shows, as a couple of examples. The sky is the limit. We want to hear from you!

By submitting ideas or suggestions, you understand that Side Scrollers may already be developing similar concepts internally or may develop similar ideas independently in the future. Submission of ideas does not create any ownership rights, compensation rights, or implied agreement of any kind. We genuinely appreciate the feedback and community input and love hearing what you’d like to see next.

Thank you!
