Been quite busy lately but managed to find the time to watch Craig’s Greenland doc reaction stream before bed yesterday.
There were many rookie mistakes made, some were most likely due to them being from a warmer climate. Like, wear BOOTS when out in the rain in freezing temperatures and wear something that goes OVER the boots to avoid water getting into them, never tuck your outerwear into your boots.
The food isn’t really made to be delicious. Some of it tastes perfectly fine but the idea is mainly to get all the necessary nutrients into you. It takes a lot of energy to trudge through snow and to maintain the necessary body temperature to function properly in that climate.
It’s not very hospitable, which is why their population number is similar to the Faroe Islands despite the size difference.
Our seals are different from the ones in Greenland so I wonder if the taste would be different as well. Our seals are huge and muscular. The ones up there have more blubber on them to stay warm. You’d think ours were overgrown sea lions or small walruses till you got a better look at them.
Here’s some more Tanerion lore; it turns out that I have an uncle who lives in that particular area of Greenland.
Well, a half-uncle who I’ve only met once. My grandfather and my grandmother had a breakup in their youth and my grandfather went to sea, ended up in Greenland where he met a girl who he stayed with until he learned that my grandmother was pregnant with my oldest aunt. He then returned home, not knowing that the Greenlandic girl was ALSO pregnant. He didn’t learn of that until he was at least in his 60’s.
He didn’t hide from my grandmother that he’d been with another woman and she didn’t care as long as he was a good husband and father from then on. Which he very much was. They had 7 children and many more grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even a few great-great-grandchildren by the time they passed.
He spent all his free time with his children and grandchildren or making toys for them.
We had a family reunion once shortly after my grandfather passed with the families of descendants from him and my grandmother and there were over 250 of us there (including spouses). When I say the fertility rate here is high, I’m not kidding.
That’s where I met my Greenlandic half-uncle. Nice guy, everyone got along, no hard feelings from anyone whatsoever. Was immediately accepted as part of the family.
It was weird though, he looked exactly like my dad and uncles except he’s Inuit.
Anyway, back on topic.
Iceland is basically less based Faroe Islands, the towns look like ours but they have a higher crime rate and have even had terrorist attacks.
Was funny watching Craig be the stereotypical “big dumb American” thinking the prices in the store were in USD.
Of course, since we’re in the same Kingdom as Greenland, we have some of the same things in stores. Such as my favorite chocolate milk.
